President Joe Biden has just awarded Ukraine $8 billion in US weapons, including long-rang munitions, something he'd previously promised absolutely to not do. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was in the US this week, visiting a munitions factory with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro which many said was akin to stumping for Kamala Harris' presidential campaign.
In a statement, the Biden-Harris White House announced that they have "directed the Department of Defense to allocate all of its remaining security assistance funding that has been appropriated for Ukraine by the end of" the Biden-Harris administration's term in office.
"As part of this effort," the statement continues, "the Department of Defense will allocate the remaining Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds by the end of this year." The Biden-Harris White House also "authorized $5.5 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority to ensure this authority does not expire," this way, the "Administration can fully utilize the funding appropriated by Congress to support the drawdown of U.S. equipment for Ukraine and then replenish U.S. stockpiles."
