Several news outlets projected on Wednesday that the Republican Party had won narrow control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the midterm elections.
The results were delayed by more than a week because of the slim margins of victory some representatives-elect gained and how long many states took to count their ballots.
CBS, CNN, the Associated Press, and NBC all projected Republicans would win with more than the 218 seats needed to have a House majority, possibly possessing 221 seats, by one estimate.
Although Republicans won the House, the results of the elections were a great disappointment in general after many polls and pundits predicted a "red wave" of Republican victories. Some predicted that the GOP might even take control of the U.S. Senate, but those hopes have been dashed.
