Fox News host Tucker Carlson and a guest celebrated Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, declaring it a major victory for “transparency” Wednesday night.
“Why was it so important to every power center in the United States to prevent Elon Musk from taking over Twitter? Lots of billionaires own media organizations,” Carlson said. “In fact, most media organizations are owned by billionaires. Why was Elon Musk, who is not some kind of right-winger, so threatening? Because he promised to bring free speech back to social media. That’s one thing they can’t tolerate, period, because their entire rule is predicated on censorship.”
Musk agreed to complete the $44 billion purchase of the social media site on Oct. 4 and reportedly needs to close his $44 billion deal to purchase the social media company by Friday in order to avoid the continuation of legal proceedings that began following a dispute between Musk and the company, according to CNN. Musk tried to back out of the deal, citing concerns about bots on Twitter.
