Late Monday, Gov. Mike DeWine signed Ohio’s two-year, $60 billion operating budget, but issued 67 line-item vetoes.

The vetoes touch on a range of issues, from restrictions on purchasing sugary drinks with food assistance benefits to proposals involving libraries, LGBTQ+ youth and partisan school board elections.

Among the rejected provisions was one that would have cut funding for homeless shelters that “promote or affirm social gender transition” and another that would have required public libraries to restrict access to materials on sexual orientation and gender identity for those under 18.

The 67 vetoes mark the most DeWine has issued since taking office in 2019, surpassing his previous high of 44 in 2023.
