Signal’s president, Meredith Whittaker, recently stepped up to defend the app’s security after an embarrassing slip-up by top US officials. For the unversed, some Trump administration officials accidentally added a journalist to their encrypted Signal chat while discussing military action. Yeah, not a great look for national security.
Now, Whittaker didn’t address the mistake directly, but she did take the opportunity to highlight why Signal is, in her words, the “gold standard in private comms.” She posted on X (formerly Twitter) about why Signal is safer than WhatsApp—Meta’s massively popular messaging app—and people are paying attention.
